The Beach is Officially Open!
It's February, it must be time for beach volleyball, at least in St. Petersburg!
The St. Petersburg College Women's Volleybal team opened spring practice today --- at the Beach. It was 80 degrees, no wind, no clouds, a great day to kick off the beach (i.e. spring) season.
"Often, we do not have many returning players. Since we don't have enough players in the right positions to field a good indoor team, we focus our spring training on beach volleyball," Commented Coach White. "The players learn some very good skills. Ball control is at a premium, so is communication with your partner. Our players had a good first day, but learned to bring sunglasses and sunscreen. They will be in for a surprise when the wind picks up!"
The plan is to practice on the beach from February thru April. We will play several big beach tournaments thru the spring. When the players return home for the summer, hopefully they will love the beach game and keep playing.
